Intent and plan for Parthon Software

Posted by Parthon on 23rd August 2007

As many of you already know, I tend to talk louder than I act when it comes to making computer games. Half finished game projects litter my computer like some kind of graveyard and while some playable demos see the light of day, for each one that does there are ten or more that don’t. Worst of all, I had a problem with this. That is up until last week.

I was working on Project: Wizards, making progress, and getting to a playable though not fully functional stage. Then I got busy, it got put by the wayside and I haven’t yet picked it up. I will, but I haven’t. What has happened though is that I had yet another idea for a game or series of games based on a concept, and while this concept is new and exciting I don’t feel like working on anything else. What I would normally do however is not work on it because I think I should be working on one of my more finished games, such as Project: Wizards. Not this time.

This time I make whatever game I feel like when I feel like it. New and interesting things to test my designing and programming abilities. Even if it’s a new idea for a tetris game, or just something small and useless, I’ll make it if I want to. I’ve spent many, many years doing nothing because I felt I should be working on this game or that. Instead, now, I’m just going to devote time to programming, whatever that may look like, and have come out of it what it will.

I guess I’m just taking the long way to say that I might never finish a game, but I’ll never stop programming.

The Intent for Parthon Software was to create games that are fun, interesting and different. I’ll still being doing this, but I’ll also be talking about independent game design, gameplay creation and of course other games, as long as it’s fun, interesting and different.

The Plan: to just mess around and have fun, build the site slowly with the various projects and games I plan to make and review, and eventually turn Parthon Software into a “job”.

I think it’s going to be an interesting few years.

Finally!

Posted by Parthon on 13th June 2007

Okay.

I finally figured out what to do with the site. Make games!

I’ve been mulling it over for a few weeks, and because I have an interest in playing games, making games, puzzles of all kinds and even personal development, I figured I would try making a combined blog. Recent reading however has convinced me that I’m better off splitting my interests into different blogs if I plan to go full time. As for this blog/website, it will be as I always planned it, a project planning and programming page for all the different projects I have done over the years and have always planned to get back into.

What this means for people reading(when there are some). This site will be dedicated to discussing various game ideas that myself and other people have had. Making up prototypes and mock ups of such ideas, and generally just throwing together any games I can. As I’ve made many prototype games in the past, I’m going to continue making them, and develop those ones furthur. I know a few people that would like to see some of my more fun games completed.

First up, I’m finishing the design on Wizards, codename only for now, which might be come Runemage or similar. I’m happy with the prototype as far as basic gameplay goes, now it’s just rewriting in a better language, and adding lots more content. I hope it will turn out as good as I imagine and, of course, I will make announcements about it as I complete it more and more. To check it out go to Wizards to see more information about the game.

Until next time, play hard and play fun. ;)

Theme and Site Changes

Posted by Parthon on 1st June 2007

Oh, and while I remember. The site looks like a dog, and I will be changing it drastically in the future. Don’t expect it to be the same each time you come back. I will be adding a heap more content and styling every week. I think it’s going to be fun, applying styling to a site that will actually stay around. I suggest anyone out there to try it, even if it’s just to learn something.

It’s not like you can fail at it. ;)
